How Often Should You Deep Clean Your Rugs in Singapore?

Rugs are easy to overlook when cleaning the home. They sit on the floor, collect everyday foot traffic and can gradually pick up sweat, dust and stains without looking particularly dirty. At this Yishun BTO, the home was due for a deep clean, and a proper rug cleaning helped remove a significant amount of staining from regular use.

Rugs Take a Lot of Daily Foot Traffic

Unlike furniture that you might only sit on occasionally, rugs are constantly being walked over.

Every trip through the house means another bit of dust, dirt or moisture can end up on the rug.

Over time, this can leave the fibres looking dull or stained, especially in areas with heavier foot traffic.

Sweat Can End Up on Your Rug Too

When we think about sweat buildup, mattresses and sofas usually come to mind first.

But rugs can also be exposed to sweat and body oils, particularly in homes where people sit or spend time on the floor.

Singapore's warm and humid climate doesn't exactly make this less relevant. Regular use can gradually leave marks that aren't always obvious until the rug gets a proper deep clean.

A Rug Doesn't Have to Look Extremely Dirty

This Yishun BTO was already at the point where it was due for a deeper clean.

There wasn't necessarily one major incident that caused the problem.

Instead, it was the result of regular use and accumulated staining over time.

That's often how rugs get dirty — little by little, rather than all at once.

What Comes Out During a Deep Clean?

The difference becomes much easier to see once the rug is actually cleaned.

For this home, we managed to remove a lot of the stains caused by sweat and regular use.

It's a good reminder that what you see on the surface isn't always the full picture.

The fibres can hold onto dirt and residue that everyday vacuuming doesn't completely remove.

Why Vacuuming Isn't Enough

Regular vacuuming is still important for keeping loose dust and debris under control. But a vacuum isn't designed to deep clean the fibres or remove everything that's settled into them.

That's where professional deep cleaning comes in. A proper cleaning process can work deeper into the rug and extract the buildup that has accumulated through everyday use.

When Is It Time to Deep Clean Your Rug?

There isn't a fixed schedule that works for every rug.

A rug in a high foot traffic area will naturally need more attention than one that's rarely used. If you start noticing stains, dull-looking fibres or areas that seem harder to keep clean despite regular vacuuming, it may be time to consider a deeper clean.

The important thing is not to wait until the rug looks extremely dirty. Regular use alone can be enough to leave buildup behind.
