Sentosa Home Upholstery Deep Cleaning Project
Five items deep cleaned and steam-sanitised in one hour — a Sentosa oceanfront condo with furniture that's barely been used, and grime nobody would expect to find in it.
The situation
An oceanfront condo on Sentosa, and a genuinely beautiful home — the kind of place that stops you at the door. Mdm A has had the unit for a while, furniture already moved in and set up, but nobody has actually lived there yet. In practice, that makes it new furniture: barely touched, some of it possibly never sat on at all.
Five items needed attention: two mattresses, a two-seater sofa with an extension, and six dining chairs. We cleaned the pillows and cushions as well, on the house.
What we did
Every item got extraction with Kärcher cleaning solution, followed by steam sanitisation.
Here's the part that surprised us as much as it might surprise anyone reading this: even furniture that's barely been touched still needed real cleaning. New furniture picks up dust and residue during manufacturing, packaging, storage and transport long before it ever reaches a living room — factory grime, not household grime, but grime all the same. The sofa was the dirtiest of the five, extracting a genuinely surprising amount considering it's practically untouched.
The two mattresses and six dining chairs followed the same process — extraction, then steam sanitisation, killing dust mites and bacteria the extraction alone doesn't reach.
Five items, one hour, in a home nobody has moved into yet.
The result
This is maybe the clearest version of a point we make often: how a home looks — or in this case, how new the furniture is — tells you almost nothing about what's actually in the fabric. A stunning, freshly furnished oceanfront condo, furniture with barely any wear on it, and the extraction water still came out dirty. Factory and transport grime doesn't discriminate between a $200 chair and a designer sofa in a Sentosa penthouse.
